5 Special Romantic Low Cost Valentine's Day Ideas

So you're starting to feel nervous and tense because Valentine's Day is near, your finances are in a sad state, and you are suffering "brain freeze" for ideas on ways to celebrate this romantic day. Relax and consider the ideas I present for a low cost, yet effective, solution to this dilemma. The important thing is to plan and take action as soon as possible. Although I will admit that some people operate better under pressure, many of us need a little more time to get our act together and think things through. With that being said here are my 5 ideas:

1. Find a love letter, picture, tickets from a show, etc. from early in the relationship. Attach it to the bathroom mirror, dashboard, computer monitor, etc with a romantic note of how you felt then and how you continue to have that special feeling now. After my wife and I were married for eight years I sent her eight dozen roses to where she was working. Just for the record, I found a florist who had to move these flowers very fast and at a ridiculous price. When she brought the flowers home, we placed them in front of the fireplace and took a picture of the 96 roses. I found that picture and taped it to her bathroom mirror for her to see first thing in the morning with a note "you're still the one". Simple yet effective. As a side note, check with your local florist for any specials they may have or try the big wholesale Clubs.

2. Make a day of it. Take in a movie, window shop or just take a car ride along the lake or park. The important thing is that you spend time together...alone! Turn off the cell phone. Talk about past experiences that make you feel good. Leave any current problems, issues, etc. on the shelf. Don't derail the "romance train"!

3. Romantic Music. Make a CD of some of your favorite love songs. This can be played while driving or at home. Talk about where you were and what you were doing when that song came out. I'll tell you a little secret...I've gone to the Dollar store and bought a CD with romantic piano and guitar music and paid a buck! Trust me it is good music.

4. Dinner at home. Dining out is such an expense that doesn't have to be incurred especially when your budget doesn't allow for it. Really, this is about sharing quality time together and letting your Valentine know how special they are to you. Light the candles, turn off the TV and phones, pour the champagne(here's a little secret..pour a flute with 2/3 champagne and top it off with Passion Fruit juice for a special mimosa), make a favorite meal(or a new surprise), and finish with a special dessert. Let each other know how much you enjoy their company and how much they mean to you.

5. Now for the Finale. End your day wearing apparel your partner would like. Something you already have in your wardrobe. Remember, you're not in fish bowl where everyone is watching. Do what is comfortable for both of you...even if that is wearing the favorite flannel pj's!
I wish you a very romantic evening with that special Valentine.

Low Cost Valentines Day Ideas

With Valentines Day almost here, the pressure is on to come up with that perfect way to celebrate the occasion. We all know that flowers and chocolates make great gifts but if you are like many people out there, perhaps funds are a little tight this year and you are looking at other ways to convey your feelings that won't burn a hole in your wallet. This article looks at a few Valentines Day ideas that aim for maximum impact but for minimum cost.

1. A handwritten love letter might sound old-fashioned but it is still the best way to say "I love you" particularly if you are not known for putting your thoughts down on paper. Post the letter to your partner in time for Valentines Day to show that your thoughts were not a last minute thing. Alternatively, leave a series of love notes in places that they will be easily found by your partner, such as a lunch box or makeup draw.

2. Put small gifts or love notes inside some see-through balloons. Inflate them with the surprises inside and tie them into a bouquet to give to your date.

3. Prepare a Valentine themed meal. You could use a heart shaped mould to bake a cake or make heart biscuits or just cut some food items into heart shapes. Decorate the table in red to complete the theme.

4. Make a collage of photos featuring the two of you. Choose photos that have special meaning and write your thoughts beneath them. Cut a couple of the photos into heart shapes and present the collage in a photo frame.

5. Make up some "gift vouchers" that your partner can surrender at any time. Perhaps a massage from you, a partner's choice movie night or even a candlelit dinner at home, would make welcome gifts.

6. If you are the musical type then you could serenade your partner with a favourite love song. If not, compile a collection of their favourite romantic songs on CD to add to the mood of the evening.

7. Cut out a series of hearts from red and white paper and on each one write a few thoughts about what your partner means to you. String the hearts together and hang them from the ceiling as decoration.

Of course Valentines Day would not be complete without flowers but these too do not need to be expensive.
